Mark Chadwick… was born on February 5, 1970 and raised in Bayshore, NY. He graduated in 1988 from Brentwood Sonderling High School. His parents came from a Lutheran background but he grew up attending the Bayshore Assembly of God, a Pentecostal congregation. He enjoyed singing from a young age and always participated in choirs within the church. However, there was a budding hidden ability to play the piano that Mark hid from everyone except a few close friends and, of course, family. One Sunday morning, Mark walked into church and took his place in the tenor section of the sanctuary choir.
He noticed that the piano bench was empty and asked a fellow tenor where the piano player was. The fellow tenor explained that the church pianist had sprained his ankle on a ski trip. Mark thought nothing further of it and continued to sing. During about the second song, a close friend who had heard him play the piano, stepped out of her place in the choir and pulled Mark into the back room. She pointed in the direction of the piano and said if he did not use what God had given him, God would take it and give it to someone else.
Whether true or not, this scared the life out of him, and it is no wonder that he's been behind the piano ever since!! Throughout his education in public school, Mark participated in solo and choral singing. While growing up, he was never paid by his church but still felt compelled to treat his volunteering as if it were a serious responsibility. He held this duty in such high regard that he only took two Sundays off a year and rarely missed any other Sunday unless he was sick or on a youth retreat. He studied classical voice for a few years and because of the progress he made in those studies, it was expected that he would pursue music in higher education and perhaps even focus on a career in classical singing. But a few years before his graduation, he had visited the oldest of his 3 sisters (Mark also has one brother) in Hammonton, New Jersey.
Here, she was enrolled in missionary training at a Youth With A Mission center. It was then and there that he felt stirred and challenged to do something different with his life. In his senior year, he announced that rather than pursue musical studies, he was going to be a missionary. He attended the same YWAM base as his sister. Mark not only studied but entered the mission field for a time, and this experience remains a central focus of his life today. At 19 years of age, he married and moved to Nashville, TN. Just starting out, there were many kinds of jobs Mark did in order to live, but before long there were employment opportunities that became awesome doors of advancement.
